The point I tried to make to you is laws and people need to have their views tested at intervals. A vote is only a snapshot of public sentiments at that time. If you have to choose between the Swiss style of democracy and Trump's style of democracy, which one do you go for?

On the subject of the EU, the size of the Irish economy is compatible with the EEA but so Ireland leaving the EU for the EEA is a possibility. However, I doubt that would be advantageous. It would still use the Euro and adopt all EU laws without a seat at the discussions.

If an EEA country has to "adopt ALL Eussr laws without a seat at the discussions" then it is"
1. Not democratic
2. Not a Euro ECONOMIC Area, but a ???
3. Switzerland is in EFTA, not EEA, and does Not adopt Alles, it broke off in 2021, my mistake, go EFTA!

EFTA would suit you but probably not the majority of Irish. EFTA is outside the Single Market, you don't have the 4 freedoms of the Single Market like posting a parcel without paperwork. EFTA has about 100 bilateral agreements with the EU on trade. It's pretty messy paperwork to deal with when you want to sell something to a Norwegian if you are based in Ireland.
I would say that the EU is the best formula for trade with your neighbours. The problem is the original objective of political union bothers a lot of people, equally here, in France. It would have been better to develop political union between Europe 12 instead of Europe 28. Personally, I think growing Europe from 12 to 28 was too soon.

The last article is behind a pay wall so I could not read it but as I understand, the EU is not looking to fight Trump. It has no interest in making inflation in the EU worse nor disrupting US supply to EU businesses. Von der Lyen just wants more time.

Agreed, but the space those take up wouldn't begin to provide enough housing for even one borough's shortages.

As a socialist, Sadiq I'm sure would enjoy tackling that lot, as would I.

Instead of fullfillment, happiness the almost infinite wealth buys unaffordable housing, congestion, pollution, inequality and a rather large existential vacuum. Lived there for twenty years (still have the house) and wouldnt return permanently for love and money.
