They omitted one other useful test - all motor phase coils should be isolated from the body of the motor - as all three phases are commoned together in star configuration a simple continuity test can check this by connecting the probes of a multimeter, switched to read resistance, across any exposed metal part of the motor body and the other to any motor phase wire, it should give a high reading. It doesn't matter which way round the probes are connected for this test.
