Carrera Crossfire E Tyres

Hi all, I'm looking to replace the tyres on my Crossfire and considering the Schwalbe Smart Sam Greenguard not sure what size to go for though, wider the better? Will the Crossfire rims take 54c?

54c is approx. 54mm +/- a mm or two, measure the width between the rear stays and front forks.

Just fitted today a pair of Smart Sam Plus tyres (3mm greenguard) to my Boardman MX Comp conversion, these were 700c x 47mm (1.75in)
Very impressed, great off road grip on the trails this afternoon, and roll and grip well on the road (in the dry at least)
