I use the 'microblob of oil' technique every so often, where the spokes meet the wheel rim, to cure the irritating plinky-plonk noise that occurs from time to time. Maybe I should just lose weight!

I also had a rattle when on uneven ground and searched everywhere for it. Turned out that it was where the side of the battery touches the frame on my folder. A lolly-stick wedge has cured that!
