I needed a decent lightweight jacket for on my bike for just those times when your not quite sure if you need a coat or not and also when it turns out chilly once you are on your ride. something that breaks the windchill but folds up small and out of the way. Anyway, I found this site that has some decent offers and the one I purchased arrived today. Plenty of storage + a bag to store it in plus removable sleeves , ventilation at the rear etc. A very well mage jacket. The small bag it folds up into also has velcros for attaching to the crossbar.

This is the company, delivery next day free plus returns and exchange and a vast range to choose from. Foxster Outdoor Clothing Specialists | Cycling | Running | Sailing | Skiing | Walking

Just thought I`d share This is the one I bought Jeantex Vezelay Windproof Cycling Jacket

Dave

PS just noticed they do a whole host of gear

I switched to wearing ponchos a couple of years ago and have not looked back.

Advantages:
Keep you dry fairly well (drape over steer or wrap around yourself).
Can slide over child seat behind you to keep the child dry as well.
You can also use them for walking.
You can quickly slip them on when it starts raining.
The airflow means you hardly sweat under them.
I found the handiest ones are the ones which have a cap attached, you just put the helmet on top of that. I got one at Lidl for £6.99 and one in a bike-shop for £12.99.

Disadvantages:
Wide means it can flap and obscure vision in mirror and when you try to look over your shoulder (which is why you put it over the steering or wrap it around yourself.).
The legs are largely protected from rain by the overhanging plastic, but it does not protect that well from splashes.
Larger area can increase wind-resistance (but then you wrap it tighter around yourself).

Any other people who have tried both suits and ponchos? What are your experiences?

I bought a sleeveless sports gilet? yesterday from Millets....Loads of pockets for all my stuff! It was so nice cycling home with it on, no sweat whatsoever.

An interesting thing....I locked my bike to a post outside the shop when I came out there was a large white van parked right on top of my bike with sliding door tight against it:rolleyes: I looked in the window and chap just ignored me and eventually drove away. what was odd there was no other traffic and he choose this spot...........

God knows.........could have been just a lost white van man. but it looked and felt suspicious. I usually lock the bike in the shopping centre (Croydon) as I don't like leaving it kerb side:rolleyes:

there was a whole stretch to park and he had to get right up on my bike, I mean I could not get alongside it to unlock it, I had to lean over from behind the post. he probably never even noticed it, BUT never made eye contact when I looked straight in the window so who knows!

Hi Eddieo, one thought - (I know Croydon, sadly), were you outside Millets? From memory, isn't that just before the (rather confusing) pedestrianisation of the high street? He may just have been trying to work out where to go?

If not, in Croydonese, it sounds well dodgy

the van was large and not sign written...I looked in the window and he was just looking out front window, not on the phone, looking at sat nav nothing....

yes I am local (streatham) it was outside millets, its pretty clear you can only turn right unless he was working out how to deliver something to a shop in precinct.

Ah well...

It's a nightmare around there on 4 wheels - better on two, though the trams can sneak up on you. Have you tried the cycle lanes on Wellesley Rd? I personally like the one that turns suddenly, ends, and launches you across the tramway, into the dual carriageway and down the underpass. :D

I bought a waterproof golf suit from SportHQ, ideal for cycling as trousers have velcro straps round ankle's. No need for cycle clips, also light weight and breathable.
