I was talking with someone from a company called "Evrything" today. They are experts in using the so called "Internet of Things" to give things an identity and to allow things to communicate. This can be anything from an item of clothing, a workshop tool, a tyre etc.
He pointed me at a video demonstrating how this can be applied to a bike. An obvious application is detecting when your bike is stolen or even disturbed in some way. It's really quite amazing what they can do, the video is here, this features a Brompton as the subject. All of this is not on the distant horizon, its all available today and starting to be used. I work in medical and this stuff has a lot of potential applications.
I hope people here find this as interesting as I did, it's quite remarkable.
