Hi All Can you use a 36v 350w controller on a 36v 250w motor.John

Short answer, most likely

Longer answer is it depends. The reason for that is not all 250w nominal power motors are equally. Some can top out at 800w and others much less.

Can. you give a bitmore detail on exact motor ?

There is another factor here which is your battery (in particular the cells and bms capability )

Many years ago I paired a 36v 500w controller with 36v 350w motor (a really beefy one mind - a BPM )

No issue there ......but I quickly killed my battery pack by demanding more power than the BMS and cell specifications could handle

Yes but don't get hung up on controller watt rating it is a crap way for listing them . Be guided by the controller amp rating as any 36v one will work but no use having crap cells and 20a + controller rating, in the long term cells will lose capacity sooner and suffer more voltage sag.

Totally, my examples above were 15a and 20a respectively (From memory!)

It's was a Jimmy at BGA built pack that was perfect after a 18 months use. I killed it in three weeks after the controller swapout
