Guys, sorry to bring this up again as I know it has been discussed before.

However, I am looking at these Cree XML T6 4000lm lights on ebay. They come with a remote battery. However, can I run this direct from the bike battery? I have a KTM Sport 10 GPS+ with a Nyon HU. It has the light switch built in and a Busch and Muller light fitted from the factory, but, is this CREE light direct swappable please?

Thanks in advance. Dave

The Busch and Muller light is a proper bike light which throws a well-designed and defined beam pattern.

The Cree light is no more than a flood-torch with a bike mount.

I'm not trying to be obtuse, but why you would want to change a quality light designed for the purpose to a dodgy electrics Chinese bulb in a box is beyond me.

Yes, very good point well made Rob. I have been looking around since first posting this and have come to the same conclusion.
I have a couple of LED Lenser torches, so, I am somebody that appreciates a quality build. I see a company called Supernova (I think they are German again) have released an e-bike specific range called M99 Pro, which looks amazing, I can only imagine what it costs!!. They say on their website that it is not for retail yet, but due to be sold on "complete e-bike packages". Lovely product which looks amazing.

Nothing to stop you buying a rechargeable bike light if you want a bit extra.

I have a couple of Lezynes, which I use mostly on the bikes I have with no lights.

The Rose has a Shimano dynohub and B&M, the front is adequate for night riding at my modest pace.

I did a night ride with a mate who has two Hope Evo Pro lights, proper bike lights, but a bit too bright in company.

When he was behind me, I had to knock off my mirror to avoid being dazzled, but worse, I was riding in my own shadow which made spotting potholes difficult.

It is always worth carrying a detachable light - one of your Lenser torches would be fine.

Very handy if you have mechanical, or need to shine a light on a signpost, or a map, or to avoid falling into a ditch when you go for a pee.

Yes, but they're no good for riding on unlit cycle tracks (at night time) or on forest trails. For that, you need a serious light like OP's.

The B&M light is adequate for an unlit cycle path, but probably not up to a forest trail on which you'd want more grunt and more of a flood-style light.

I'm not convinced by the reliability of cheap Cree lights, although some users report good service from them.

The Hope lights on my mate's bike would do the job in any conditions, and so they should for £100+.

Interestingly, they - or at least the model in this link - uses a Cree LED.

I've never had any problems. They're so cheap now that reliability isn't really an issue.

Cree lights are pretty poor for off road riding. The spot beam makes them pretty much useless.

I've had a few issues with them in respect of reliability, but given the cheapness, it isn't really of any concern. Not sure if I have just been lucky, but the battery packs seem to last okay though.

I think the cree word is being generalised a lot here
Cree is a good quality led manufacturer who make over 30 different types of led and driver for many different applications too many different manufacturers of lights
That range from flood to spot beams
Also the likes of ebay have a lot too answer for with there over inflated lumen claims
Buy a light from a good manufacturer and this does include the Chinese as the make a lot of hi end stuff but as with anything there's lots of rubbish too
But that goes for every where not just China
