I had the bike in for its first service during the week so thought this was a good time to come back with my experiences so far.
It hasn't been used for much other than the flay, 5.5m each-way commute - more because of lack of free time than lack of enjoyment.
Until the service it didn't let me down at all. I generally use 'tour' mode, which is 2 out of 4 and find cycling very easy. I recharge the battery every couple of days and estimate my range to be 40 - 50 miles if I didn't. Switching to 'sport' or 'turbo' means strong headwinds are manageable and I find myself cycling a little harder and trying to shorten my trip some days, as it is such fun cycling along.
I did have some squeal from the brakes but that has gone.
Like all ebikes it is heavy. Although I am very satisfied with it, if I were to choose again I might go for something lighter - Momentum Upstart or maybe even the Freego Raptor (I'd still rather not but online).
It was in with Chain Reaction for its service and I was a little surprised that they had to replace a chain after only 375 miles. My maintenance routine hasn't been up to scratch, and certainly was less so for the first lot of weeks. They told me that the chain was 75% worn and best replaced before it affected the sprockets.
I got myself a maintenance stand from Decathlon yesterday, to I intend to degrease and lube much more regularly. I was still surprised that it was so worn, as I am never off-road on it.
On the way back from CRC the chain stuck a few times. Took it back and they said it was catching on the front sprocket. Sorted it and fitted a new chain just in case - all seems good since then.
I was cleaning it on Friday and noticed that one of the bolts holding the pannier to the frame was gone. I drove over yesterday, as I didn't want to cycle with a heavy battery jumping around and maybe damaging the pannier and they gave me a bolt to try. I couldn't get it in though, so I'll have to take the bike over tomorrow. Maybe the old one sheared off and is still in there?
I was surprised when one of the guys told me that they have had lots of problems with the Intuvia head unit not charging. Hasn't happened to me though, so fingers crossed it doesn't!
The wife and I took the bikes down town on St Patrick's day and swapped halfway. I hadn't realised how much assistance I was getting from the motor! Hers was such hard work compared to mine. Luckily mine is too big for her, so she can't steal it.
