After browsing the news headlines earlier this morning, I'm left feeling really angry.
Reading about cuts in nurses' pay in Sussex and cuts in the London allowance for military personnel of Sergeant's rank and above are difficult enough to digest but when I read on the same news page that some London hospitals have written off over 90% of money owed by foreign nationals who had no entitlement to free NHS care really takes the biscuit!
Meanwhile, unemployment continues to rise; the two tory parties in government continue to press ahead with benefit cuts; tory-boy Branson is able to buy for a song, a bank owned by we taxpayers; the CBI wing of the tory party want H&S abolished and all rules inhibiting their ability to hire and fire on a whim removed from statute. (they call it red tape.... or bureaucracy.)
Of course, it's not all bad news; the investigation and prosecution of bent politicians continues apace as does the pursuit of capping....yes, just capping bankers' bonuses. Yeah, right!
To be fair to the government, they probably did the right thing by leaving the country bereft of aircraft carriers as with all the redundancies across the forces, we probably won't have enough sailors to staff another capital ship, nor pilots to fly the aircraft from one.
Ah well! Perhaps Murray can win his first major in Oz or maybe our cricketers can thrash the Pakistanis in the second test then everything will be all right with the world again.
