Cycle Analyst

I've been experiencing urges to fit a Cycle Analyst to my bike. The main reason for this is that it would be very useful to know exactly how much current I have used, and accordingly can accurately maximise range.

I have the 'Silver Fish' style behind the seat battery which connects at the bottom where it sits on a 4 pronged 'male' connector on top of the controller thingy.

How easy would it be to fit the device and roughly what would be involved. I am reluctant to end up with loads of untidy external wiring and prefer to avoid the 'experimental look'.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

You should get the Stand Alone (SA) version of the CA.

To fit it, take the side-plate off the controller compartment; pull out the controller to expose the battery wires; cut them and solder the shunt wires to the cut ends, or solder two male and two female connectors, or instead of cutting the wire, solder male and female connectors the same as what you have between the battery and controller; install the speed sensor and magnet just like you do with a cycle computer. That's it. You need to find a route for the wire from your controller compartment to the CA on the handlebars. I don't remember if there was a connector on it. If there isn't, you might have to cut it and re-join with or without a pair of connectors.

the bracket to hold the CA to the handlebars is a bit wafty, so you might want to make your own. Here's mine, which is stronger, more thief proof and leaves more room on your handlebars for lights, bell, phone, etc..

Fantastic D8Veh. Where would we all be without your expertise and helpfulness.

For no particular reason, the prospect of cutting and soldering power cables is a bit scary, but I would really like to fit one as my Christmas present. I'm off to bed now, but tomorrow I'll extract the controller box and have a poke around to see if its feasible for me to attempt. No doubt I will have more questions when I have made a hash of it, but with perserverance it should be doable.

Thanks again, you're a diamond geezer!

Take a photo of your battery connections so that we can see the connectors.

Just getting to grips with a huge wiring maze again and need to integrate CA into it. Quick question on fuses ...

The cycle analyst wiring up diagram shows fuse located before your switch on systems with a switch (like mine). At the moment I've wired in an inline 40A fuse after the switch on the way to controller because the supply branches there (the other branch servicing a bunch of accessories). My original intention was to insert the CA after that fuse.

It all needs completely rewiring anyway and supply leads extending as battery orientation had to change. CA has very inflexible wires attached that aren't particularly helpful the way it is at the moment. So I can change the fuse position to before the switch if there is a logical benefit of doing so. It just means that the controller is fused before the supply is tapped not after and I don't understand what's best / appropriate in this case.

Help appreciated. Thanks.

Theoretically, the fuse should go as close to he battery as possible in case wiring shorts out, but it doesn't make a lot of difference if you put it anywhere in your main supply wires.

Hi Eaglerider,

Although we don't stock the SA version of the Cycle Analyst, we do have a stainless steel bracket for mounting the eZee console to bikes with a threadless headset. They also work with the CA. I have one on a demo bike fitted with a CA, but no photos right now.

Below are photos of the bracket shown on the eZee console.
