Last weekend, driving through Mid-Wales. The road, although an A road was no wider than a suburban side street. On a straight stretch, I saw a cycle approaching me from about half a mile. He was wearing dark clothing and was difficult to spot. At this moment, the car behind overtook me. It was only when alongside me that I think he saw the pedal cycle. Luckily, nothing untoward occurred, but as I passed the bike, I saw that the rider had a blue rain cape and blue helmet. The rain had darkened them, and against the hedge and trees at the side of the road he was not easily seen at a distance.
Bright yellow or orange are the way to go.

I agree Mike it becomes even more of an issue this time of year when the weather is cloudy and wet. It struck me today when I was driving the can in pouring rain how much worse my visibility was as a driver in those conditions what with struggling to get the windows to demist fully and the greyness of the atmosphere hiding things.
