This is from last years event rather than this years looking at date of article and some of the stuff featured. Also date of comments e.g. mentions Brompton e bike. Still a nice update though ;)

Sorry, your right it is last years review, ironically I came across it via a search for information on the AEG motor but it appears last years review still holds water. I was hoping to find something new for the members to get their teeth into.

Thanks for the update Mark. I hope the delay is a short one and it can be brought to the market soon.

The AEG project has been delayed. You may want to look at the Brose, Continental drive instead....Continental debuts e-bike drive system at Eurobike | Bicycle Business | BikeBiz

Many thanks
Mark
Mark,at Eurobike 2012 I spoke at length to the guys on the AEG stand. Even the salesman on the stand admitted that he couldn't see a place for the AEG system,it would have made a good aftermarket conversion but AEG wanted to sell only OEM.
Now that Bosch have released their 2014 system it must look further away for AEG to compete.
KudosDave

Hi Dave,
AEG are a long way off and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't continue with the project. Whilst Bosch has taken the majority of the market, I'm sure there is still space for competitors.
thanks
Mark

the aftermarket tends to centre around low cost, quick fit kits - not suitable for large manufacturers like AEG. Going after OEM requires a more advanced, inovative design otherwise, the OEM would have no incentive to change supplier. On this front, Bosch design seems to be a lot more sophisticated than AEG. The Continental Brose may have a chance if they can compete on price. Somehow, I doubt that the Brose unit would be any cheaper to make so their chance of wider adoption by OEMs is slim.
