Folks,

I'm sure this has been posted in a thread somewhere, but for the life of me I can't find it!

Does anyone know what size headset spanner I need to tighten the headset on my new (to me!) Wisper 905se (it's a German Ebay model from Nov 07)???

(and whilst I'm at it what tools do I need for that straaange bottom bracket?)

Cheers

Steve

It doesn't seem to be any standard tool, probably just one for convenience in the factory rather than servicing it afterwards. I'm planning to service it with destructive tools and fit a new cartridge BB, the original is a cup and cone type.

Actually yes, looking at the pictures on your original post I can see that the BB is very wierd. It appears to have 2 lockrings?!?! So the right hand side with that splined cup is also adjustable?

Mine is a little wobbly so I need to do something, sooner rather than later. Of course what we have to hope is that the BB axle is not of some strange dimensions too, so that a cartridge type can be fitted.

Wisper 905 headset nuts are 36 mm A/F.

If you have a large enough adjustable wrench you can use that, but, line the jaw faces with masking tape first to prevent marring of the black finish on the alloy nuts. If you prefer to buy the correct tools there are some

HERE and HERE

I think you have already found the bottom bracket tools.

All the best

Thanks for the links Bob!

Indeed I've just found I do have the requisite tools for the BB.

1 ancient Raleigh "all purpose" tool that loosened the lock ring. (I suspect a screwdriver and a gentle hammer will suffice)

1 adjustable spanner that tightened the cup.

30 seconds. Job done!

Mussels.... if you do it sooner rather than later (so the components don't sieze) I suspect destructive maintenance will not be necessary:) :) :) :)

Cheers
