Striking is they were both direct drive hub makers...
anyone could have told them that's the wrong technology for 250W motors.
it's hard enough for DD motors to compete against geared hubs, they don't stand much a chance against crank driven kits.

A few companies like Bosch are starting to get a stranglehold on the market who skirt the rules on 250W limit. And the lower end is dominated by Chinese makers.

Go SwissDrive were very good quality motors (Swiss design and German manufacturing) and had the absolute best LCD on the market (IMHO) - the ergonomics were remarkable and they were doing colour LCD when others were still doing LEDs... They were priced well beyond reasonable, as were Bionix, and never offered user installable kits. There was even an s-pedelec version!

they could have done well with s-pedelecs, much more suitable to their motor.
Perhaps there is not enough demand for s-pedelecs.
