I wouldn't say they are rubbish but I wouldn't expect these to be in any way high end. The parts have all the signs of typical low cost chinese bike parts. 24" rims are very common in china but I don't see so much in the UK.

Cheap Chinese bikes have very cheap components. Even not so cheap bikes have components that cost a lot less at the factory than you would imagine.

Bicycles (and I believe parts also) from china have an anti dumping tax applied which is about 48% on top of the 14% standard duty, plus VAT. Maybe they've avoided the tax somehow or they just got them that cheap that they can still make a profit even with the tax....

24" wheel bikes are sometimes sold as kids/youths bikes in this country.

People from South China and the hotter Oriental countries are shorter so they may be more commonly used there for adult bikes, particularly for ladies. (You do get tall Chinese people but they tend to be in the colder areas).

There are also giant rats in the hotter countries of East and SE Asia, but they don't ride bikes, a good thing though as they would frighten people and their poor eyesight alongside large amounts of two wheeled traffic would cause a lot of nasty collisions :D

You'll also find some people in the UK who are vertically challenged.
I am fortunate in that I have short legs too

Personally I can't see a problem with using bankrupted stock or Chinese bike parts (my bike is a Chinese import). I think a bit of snobbery creeps in sometimes. Similar to how Hong Kong stuff used to be looked down on years ago - quality improves with time - now everyone has Hong Kong stuff .... time has a way of ironing out those stuffed shirts.

Thanks guys. I think I will try them for something not too expensive and see how it goes. I will post here with whatever I find from this.
