The integral satnav in my car hasn't worked for 2 months since some water ingress to the DVD player, the wiring loom and the shark's fin aerial and mini co-axial cable.
I have a spare unit but when I swopped them over, that one wouldn't work either so I looked at the wiring & co-axial after dropping the headlining. I decided to remove the aerial and stripped it but could see no damage from water. The secret menu on the unit described "antshort" as a fault code and I could see that the unit was failing to recognise any of the 8 satellites that it used to pick up.
Over the weeks, I have tried the system from time to time, hoping that it might just be damp causing the problem and it could dry out with time but to no avail.
Knowing from some previous experience that it would probably cost more to sort the integral system than to buy a portable unit, I finally bit the bullet yesterday and purchased a nice Garmin model about £135, (offer!)
I downloaded the free map update and set it up with my preferences and charged it fully. Today, I took a trip to the local dump...sorry, recycling centre....with a load of garden waste and assorted junk. Just as I was about to step out of the car once back home, I thought I'd try the in-built system one last time.......you know the rest of this story!
Ah well; it seems I can use this super-duper Garmin thingy on the bike if I just purchase the mount from their accessory list......not that I've ever ridden far enough to get lost.
Hey-ho!
