Infineum Extreme - Battery question

Hi, I'm trying to revive an old Infineum Extreme ebike.
I think the battery is suspect as it wont reach full charge, and when riding it cuts out when any real load is applied - the power level lights go from 4 down to 1, then flash and it resets again, but will cut-out again after a few seconds of actual load. (on the flat or down hill it doesn't cut out)

My plan is to get a different aftermarket replacement battery, but would like to check if that will cure the issue.
I have a 36V lead acid battery pack from an electric skateboard - can I just use that to check that the battery is the issue?
I don't wont to blow anything up.
Any advise would be very welcome.

Many thanks,

Adam

Your battery is probably knackered, terrible battery voltage sag under load and cutting out says it all. Checking cells groups may tell you if any are out of balance, balancing them may improve things if they are able to hold a charge, however if the battery is old then more then likely past its best.

SLA will work but you will also suffer voltage sag.

Thanks Nealh, I think the battery is well past its best, I just want to use the SLA to see if the rest of the bike functions correctly.
Is there a guide to checking the cell groups and balancing? Don't really know what that involves!!

Thanks again, Adam

It involves opening the battery to get at the electronics to probe with a Digi volt meter. Using the search facility will come up with various threads or post some pics of your opened battery and we can guide you on the steps to take. Nothing to lose if the battery is past it.

No not much help ;).
You need to look for the flat (usually) clear or white block with the thin voltage sense wires connected on the BMS, normally will have 10/11 wires.

Wow loads of Kapton tape/covering on there hard to see much through that. But the sense wires are visible looking at the pic as is, along the middle of the open pack on the top left of the pcb board there should be 10 or 11 wires going to a connector, disconnect this and take a pic of it. This is where you measure the cell string voltages via the plug terminals, each wire correlate's to each cell group. If there is an 11th wire then this picks up the positive.
