I know the CX motor gives a bit more but, whilst I'm still perusing the various 2016 line-ups, I'm not seeing any compelling reason to upgrade my 2015 Cube.

Mine is full suspension and excellent spec with XX1 this and XT that, but still comes in at a relatively hefty 21kg. I thought the 2016 line-ups would see a material drop in weight but I'm obviously ignoring the laws of physics... and ignoring the 17kg Haibike FullCarbon Ultimate at £12,000.

Similar bikes with similar components at a similar weight; the motor alone isn't enough for me to warrant an upgrade from what I've seen thus far.

A 500Wh battery would always be nice though...

I've been keeping an eye on the Specialized as it really appeals to me, but it's not reviewed as well as some the 2015 Bosch powered bikes...

Are the Rotwild batteries removable or must they be charged on the bike? The latter would be a deal breaker for me...

The Rotwild/Brose mountain bike batteries have to be charged on the bike.

I don't know if that applies to all bikes with the Brose motor.

That's another brand off the list then.

The new Specialised line uses the Brose motor and the battery is removable, so that's definitely one I'll be keeping any eye on.

There are cheaper models in the range than the FSR S-Works or whatever it's called... and I don't think I'm against a hardtail if it comes in + size with 2.8" - 3" tyres, which would be cheaper still.

When it came down to it, I'd probably keep my Cube... as it really is superb... unless there was something really compelling about a new bike.

However, the sleek integration of the battery on a Brose powered bike, combined with a material reduction in weight, could be that compelling reason.

I'm an MTB hack. Even if I did have £9k to splash out on a bike, my skills simply don't warrant that level of expense!

Not planning to ride without battery, just thinking that a hardtail 27.5+ weighing in at 17-18kg with integrated battery could be a consideration in due course to replace my 21kg Cube. Not sure the Brose powered bikes are coming in that light though, other than those priced at silly money.

Interestingly though, the article I read on the FSR S-Works stated the battery took no load bearing but, as you say, I don't think you'd want to ride without it particularly as mud would consume the open battery housing.
