Hi, Just thought I'd post my experience in case anyone is thinking about getting a tow bar cycle carrier.

About three years ago we bought a Volkswagen Scirocco and it wasn't until afterwards that we found out you can't fit a tow bar to this model. We had a Atera Sport Mk2 two bike carrier which we used on the tow bar of the Golf we used to own to carry our mountain bikes. So to make use of it I stripped it down of non essentials, lights, tow hitch etc and bolted it down to the lid of the trailer which we tow behind our campervan and the bikes sit on that a treat.

We recently sold the Scirocco and bought a Honda CRV which came complete with tow bar fitted, so, we looked for another carrier but one capable of carrying our two lecky bikes, a Woosh Zephyr B and my wife's Freego Wren.

After lot's of reading forums and searching the internet we decided to buy a Buzz Rack Scorpion carrier and wow what a great piece of kit. It's simplicity itself to fit on the tow ball and very secure with a turn knob on the top which locks and a bolt underneath. It takes two bikes up to a weight of 30kg each and they're a doddle to load and secure and with a flick of a switch if tilts back almost 45 degrees to gain access the hatch and folds up when not in use.

The only downside, (some may find) is it's weight which is, 18.5 kg whereas the Atera was 13.5kg, the reason being, it's made of steel instead of aluminium. As far as I'm concerned it's a bonus because it feels very strong and capable of taking two heavy bikes with no problem. I'm also lucky because the CRV has a 100kg limit on the tow ball and I guess both bikes (without the batteries) and the carrier weigh about 65kg altogether.

Hope this helps if you're thinking of getting a carrier
