My Cree 1600 turned up at last from HK

CREE XML XM-L T6 LED Bicycle Light HeadLight headLamp | eBay

Compared to the Deal extreme units (900 I think) this one is noticeable brighter, however, the beam is more focused, its like a search light where the DE ones are a bit more diffused and don't penetrate as far. Will be interesting to get a comparison later...

DealExtreme do a 1600 Lumen light here.

As you will see, it is a fair bit more expensive that the one you have. Also some of the comments suggest that the DealExtreme light is more like a floodlight with quite a diffused throw of light. Personally, I think a more focused beam like the one you have is better. Add in the lower price of your light and I think it make it a good buy.

There isn't an awful lot to these lights and I think that they are all expensive for what they are. The main aspect which influences how good they are seems to be the reflector / lens. The other bits seem to be standard across the range available.

Interesting the DE one uses 4 diodes and yet has a smaller battery...

Just fitted some balance taps to this new one and the cells seem to be better balanced than either of me DE ones...

Andover, Hants.
Took delivery of a Fenix HP20 at the weekend, it comes in a plastic box that I thought was a waste of packaging, but then I velcro'd the lamp onto my helmet without using the headband and now find the packaging invaluable for storing the bits that come with this torch.

A couple of small velcro tie-wraps fixes the light to the helmet with a couple more for running the cable to the rear of the helmet for the remote battery holder. The light is detached from the headband webbing for this to work.

It's about the same brightness as my Hope 1's with roughly the same reach and spread, I'll be testing it in the Forest of Dean tomorrow evening, 2400mAh rechargeables last approx 2-3 hours on full power. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

Has anyone considered using or investigated amber lights facing outwards from the side of the bike? A bit like running lights on a car.

I've got amber led strips for mine. Really inexpensive off ebay but delivery from the 2 suppliers I've tried is so slow- over a month in both cases. They are 12V. I run them through a voltage regulator but there's nothing to stop you running in serial to your bikes voltage.

My supposed 1800 lumen one arrived today. It's fairly focused but very bright. I'd say that I'd be happy using it on my motorbike.

I've fitted it to a little tube thing I got with a bike computer, which is designed to fix things when you don't have enough room on the handlebars. Anyway, this tube, which is fixed only at one end, is rigid enough to hold the light steady, but springy enough that you can twist the light to point directly into the windscreen of those cars that don't dip their lights. I'm pretty sure that it'll have the right effect.

I've seen a light in an identical housing to this being sold by a variety of different sellers all claiming various levels of light output ranging from 900 Lumen to this one at 1800 Lumen. Are they all the same light, with only the level of exaggeration concerning the output varying, or are they actually different units?

The light that NRG has purchased looks identical to this 1800 Lumen one to me. MagicShine also produce and light in an identical housing, but only claim 1200 Lumen.
