Lishui Controller - Can I add a throttle?

Hi All,

I just bought a MATE-X fat bike that runs a Shengyi DGW25 SY254820SJ 48V 500W motor and a Lishui LSW1545-5-1M Controller. The Australian fun police (and I believe in the EU)mandate that ebikes cannot have a hand throttle and must be limited to assistance up to only 25KMH. The speed I can sort out by adjusting settings in the controller but there is no place to actually plug in a hand throttle.

Question is: Can a Lishui LSW1545-5-1M Controller be modified to accept a throttle? There is a note on the controller labelled "Throttle Adjustment voltage: 1.2v-4.4v" which sort of says it can handle a throttle but it is just not wired for one.

I'm happy to open the controller and solder in the wires if someone knows where to attach them and if it is in fact possible to do.

Cheers in advance for any help.

A generic thumb throttle has three wires red/ 5v and Black/ Gnd simply solder to their respective positions on the pcb or any spare 5v & Gnd that shows continuity, the third colour wire is the signal. Some may use the marking TH or TS for the wire but needs confirming first.
I have an unused throttle enabled 20a Lishui which I can open to look but likely not until sometime early next week .

I wouldn't take any notice of the label. even if you find a connection point inside the controller, it's probably disabled in the software.

Easiest solution would be to replace the controller and LCD. Brainpower ones from Aliexpress etc. do the job similar to Lishui. They cost about $70 AUD. KT sinewave ones from Topbikekit or PSWPower are better at around$140. Both will require some work on the wiring and connectors.

Your controller is 18 amps, which is not so common. 14A, 15A, 20A and 22A are more available. You can probably go up to around 22 amps if you want a bit more power. Obviously a 15A one will give proportionally less power.

The next thing to be aware of is the size of the controller. You need to make sure it fits in the compartment. 22A ones are bigger than 15A.

All one can hope for is the throttle software is still enabled and they have simply removed the wiring for the market intended for the dealer/vendor.
It is probably simpler to programmes all the software as std on the prod line and then just not add the wiring for certain batches.
