With the recent death of Neil Armstrong and the recent landing of the Mars explorer my thoughts turn to the Moon landing back in the sixties. There are many people who think that it never happened and was all done on a set somewhere in America to get one up on the Russians. When you think back to the computer technology that was available at the time it does indeed seem to be a remarkable acheivement. Does anyone have any thought on this

I have read about some of the conspiricies theories based on some of the photos taken, and questions such as crosshairs not matching, and difference in shadows, and the flag not looking right etc, all very interesting, but i give the Yanks the benefit of the doubt

I believe they did get there.
America, especially, seems to be full of conspiracy theorists.
It must be pretty soul destroying to be one of those brave men and then find others are heaping derision on their amazing achievement.

As Neil Armstrong said himself, someone will eventually go back up there and find his camera he had dropped !

The thing that rubbishes these conspiracy theories is the fact that Russia was also remote surveying the moon in the same period. With the American respect for Russia's very real space achievements, albeit concealed, they wouldn't have dared risk a fake that the Russians might be able to expose.

I for one cannot seriously believe that the Mars rover can be used to 'launch' Will-i-ams new single !!!
If mankind was there surely we would at least play something decent.

At least there's consistency, wherever mankind goes, we pollute.

Yes, I know, but unfortunately there are always people who take it all seriously...........which is how we end up with ridiculous conspiracy theories........:D

I would have thought that it would have been almost impossible to cover up even if it was faked. Surely there would have been far too many people involved to ever keep it secret. America would have become a joke nation if such a conspiracy was ever uncovered.

Capricorn one, great film about a similar conspiracy, except it was a mission to Mars

One thing is still confusing me. In the '60s it was a really difficult achievement to get a man on the moon with their limited computing, electronics and materials technology. By comparison with what they have today, it should be a doddle to achieve the same thing, but they've never been back in nearly 50 years. Why?

The only reason I know of is that Congress have repeatedly starved NASA of funds. The original space shuttle design for example was very much larger and not needing those huge side fuel tubes and motors that caused the accidents. The funding was scaled back necessitating the smaller shuttle we know with the bodges and altitude limiting. Short sighted of course, and the lack of funds have usually meant NASA facing either/or situations.

Now they are passing "local" space travel to private enterprise, another cost dodging measure.
