I can read the voltage of my car battery on my multimeter no trouble. When I try to read the voltage on the Bosch battery I can't get a reading with any of the outer 4 terminals.

The battery has 5 terminals, only the centre one is in use when on the charger. Do I need to be connecting the two outer terminals together before getting a reading? It makes no sense to me, and yes my electronics knowledge is basic.

I've never experimented with a Bosch system, so I can only speak generally.

Some batteries have a switch on the BMS to make it give power. The switch can be remote or fitted directly to the battery. If that were the case on the Bosch, you'd have to join two of the pins to get output, but one pair of pins should then have voltage between them, which might not be 36v. It could be something very low.
