After a lot of reading and buying spurious parts I have acheived a modicum of success and I am so far very please with the result. Parts were from this forum and ebay. I had to change the bottle battery shown as it came cracked but the seller refunded the money so I got a slightly used 15ah 36V BMS Battery from ebay (£180) which meant a rack was required (£15).

Motor and controller, throttle and brake cutouts are from "Amped bikes", direct drive (36 volt but power unspecified) £105 from this forum.

Either I have d8veh's throttle loose magnet problem, or there is a cruise control function (which is stated on the controller - but Amped Bikes deny!). If I cruise on a constant throttle for a few seconds it locks to that speed until I nudged the trottle again. Not sure if this is intentional but it suits me just fine allowing cruising at any speed I want.

I have not fitted the brake cut outs yet (but I am not sure they are required as I have the off switch, then throttle and ultimately the key to kill the power if in emergency) as it would require new gear changers. I have had to limit the gears to prevent the lowest being selected to stop the deraileur fouling the motor but this is not a problem. There is an 8 gear changer on the bike but the motor free wheel only has seven but changing gear works fine although seems to be largely a thing of the past now.

I just did my first motorised ten mile ride (that used to take me 53 minutes unassisted) and it took 32 mins. I used the motor most of the way but with hard pedalling, mainly in top gear. Still all battery lights lit - and I am tired but happy. You feel like an Olympic cyclist pumping away in top gear !!

I did not join the jumper provided to limit to 15.5 mph but will try this next.

Pictures attached if I can fathom out how !!

PS: thanks for all help and advice you guys have given me in getting this far.

You've definitely got cruise enabled. Normally there's a couple os single wires that make a loop when connected to enable it. Disconnec them to lose the cruise, which would be very dangerous without brake cut-offs.

That's a fair size motor waiting to unleash a lot more power at 52 volts and 25 amps.
