Just so that we all know, I traced a mysterious engine cutting out to the front brake cable which had one fractured strand that worked its way up and coiled around the cable between the lead blob and the standing part of the brake.
Result was that the brake lever would not go to the Off position sufficiently, thus operating the cut out
