New Kalkhoff - initial charge

Father-in-law has just bought a new Kalkhoff step through.

It's taken him 3 days to flatten the 11.4Ah ? battery - he's done 55 miles - before giving it a full charge. I see Kalkhoff recommend totally depleting the battery and then giving it a full charge approx every 6 months.

Is this common with quality Lithium batteries ?

They recommend it to set and later reset the battery's management system parameters.

He must have been riding on flattish ground because when I rode my 17ah one to system shutdown it took 47 miles of very hilly terrain at max assist. The last few miles at very low voltage is almost zero assist and is hard work too.
