879 euro is just insane for something that will end up down the tip in 2-3 years time.

just hope the 400 start coming down a bit, tho i doubt it ;(

The oldest Bosch battery I have, a 300 series, has lost no measurable capacity in 4½ years. Likewise, a four-year-old 400 series. Both batteries are well on track to match the longevity of the 26v Panasonic and 18 a/h BMZ batteries used on my Kalkhoff Sahel, both of which are showing no reduction in capacity after five years of usage.

None of these batteries will be heading for the 'tip' any time soon ;)

Unlikely, the dongle cannot over-ride the highly protective battery management system, the sole reason for the long battery life. Amps demand is always over-ridden by capacity availability.

dongle unlocks full power of motor so 350w it be done at full blast at 10 miles 30mph.

The dongle only removes the speed restriction.

Mounted on the speed sensor, it cannot do anything else.

If you hammer around flat out in turbo - dongle or not - battery longevity will be reduced.

Most of my riding is in tour.

I have yet to notice any drop in battery capacity in any of my three Bosch batteries.

All are now just over three years old.

It's a rechargeable battery, so as night follows day, capacity will decline at some point.

The sellers of the £250 Chinese batteries quote a life of two to three years.

If my £500 Bosch batteries last another couple of years, the overall cost of Bosch doesn't look so expensive.

Having said that, I agree with Blew it that the management software is probably a big contributor to the longer life.

The guts of a Bosch battery is unlikely to be much different to the Chinese ones.

So the Bosch batteries are being sold with a greater profit margin.

What was originally being said is that if the owner of the battery uses it as intended by the manufacturer, then they can expect in excess of 4 years useful life from it.

On the other hand, if the battery is abused and used in a way in which the manufacturer never intended, then it's life will be considerably reduced.

What's new?

This forum is rapidly heading to a position at the opposite end of the scale it once occupied.
