Non V-brake levers with switches

All the brake levers with built in motor cut out switches I have come across seem to be designed for V-brakes/cable discs. Are there any switched levers out there which can work with dual-pivot brakes? V-brake levers will work but won't have the correct cable pull so the brakes may feel weedy.

There certainly are some around, a few of last years Wispers shipped with them by mistake so there will be some laying around surplus to requirements.
Unfortunately mine were destroyed in the removal process so I don't have any.

Not to my knowledge.

At one point I was toying with the idea of making some as I was going to electrify a drop handlebar bike. My solution was going to be to get s pair of Tektro top levers, enlarge the little hole that is in the right place, and fit a small switch.

I got as far as buying a bag of switches and had some levers on my existing bike, and felt it would work, but never did it.

Happy to share more details if you want to do it!

PS overlapped with Mussels post - interesting - there may be an easier solution

Robin,

There's a thread on endless-sphere started by a guy with the opposite problem. He had non V brake levers with swtiches and wanted to fit V brakes.

So such things exist. I'd suggest searching him out and offering to swap but he's in the US.

My original 2006 Torq came with the wrong levers, I actually threw the last one I had out last weekend, sorry I didn't think there would be a use for it. I also had a Eco Tornado that had the wrong levers if that helps.

I just checked with Wisper - all their brake switches are now 3 wire hall effect, but I need a 2 wire switch, so no luck there. I hadn't heard of 3 wire cut out switches.

Robin,

3 wires will be negative, positive and the output from the Hall sensor.

It should be possible to use them. You need to know which way round the Halls operate, but Wisper can tell you that. It would help if you had a circuit diagram of how the original switches were connected. But even without one, I don't see why they can't be wired in to override the throttle fairly easily.

I'll be in contact thanks.

This is a DIY conversion using a Tongxin motor. Unfortunately the forks don't have the braze ons for V-brakes so a dual-pivot brake is the only option.

All the bikes I have seen with switched brake levers have V-brakes so I guess switched brake levers suitable for dual-pivots are not very common.
