Hi, Now the weather is changing is it ok to carry on using electric bikes? I ask because of my concern for water ingress, 'specially where its most vunerable if it does get in; ie my rear hub motor. I cant see where this would occur except at the shaft??
Any replies/ideas are appreciated. M

I've used mine in heavy rain, hail, and snow with no electrical problems. I wouldn't recommend riding through deep water though.

That's good to know, my bike is a couple of months 'old' now and has known only nice weather so far.

We have a bridge to get on and off the island. . .so no deep water :)

Most are sealed units as such and shouldn't really be affected by rain. I'd be more concerned about making sure the connections up to the motor, controller and anything inbetween are nicely protected.

Mine gets battered with rain and snow and a good measure of grit they put on the roads round here. No problems whatsoever, only issue i have is the grit on the rims and brake blocks grinding drives me mad.

I'm feeling better about it then! I have used black silicone to waterproof at handlebar level, the throttle and pedal assist 'brain' cables go to a junction box/controller? and that box has nice little grommets but they are split grommets (ie no seal from water then) so I have at least sealed them for winter.
