Ok so i have got my hands on a UrbanMover um33x 24v electric bike, brushless mottor controller etc etc however she's just not running :( im come to the conclusion with a multi meter that the pedelec sensors dead :( now replacing said sensor seems like a awful lot of work for a assist system, when to be tottally honest id rather have a throttle / button looking at the pedelec sensor wire it has 3 :D if i simply buy a cheap 3 wire thumb throttle can i simply 'wack it on' in place of the pedelec and away i go? cheers for any advice ;)

No they don't work like that.
Replace the pas sensor shouldn't prove to be a major problem. For a throttle you will need to see if there is a spare wire connector from the controller.

I have the same vintage um24 , so it probably has the same type of control. . If it has a display containing a few red LEDs , to denote battery power on the right hand side of the handlebars , then this is also potentially a throttle. It may have been disabled in order to comply with an interpretation of the law. Turn the bike upside down. If you open the bottom plate , which is well sealed with a rubber gasket, you may well see a single cable connector and a mating plug unconnected. Connect them up and the right hand side becomes a throttle.
I don't know what state or type of battery you have, but the original nimeh types will be well knackered by now.

It's very unlikely that your pedal sensor is faulty unless you can see that it's broken. I think that you've jumped to too many conclusions. You haven't given us any basis to your judgements. You should either start from the beginning by measuring the battery voltage or give reasons why you've come to the conclusions you have.

Your bike will be much better with a pedal sensor, so you should only give that up as a last resort.

The orginal nimh jobbys were well dead! leaking all over place managed to replace them with a home made litium ion pack made out of cells taken from power banks ! upon close inspection of the controller there is a additional connection with 4 wires i assumed this to be for lights that this model doesnt have! i indeed have a display with severel led's denoting battery life a button for mode / power and lights but this is on the left also a button for lights that does nothing but light a blue led upon the display ;) im just waiting for my digicam to charge and ill take some photos i belive it can take a throttle as the controller states upon the sticker "throttle adjusment voltage 1.2v-4.4v" ;) thanks for any help :D

i came to the conculsion of a dead pedal sensor as i have power displayed upon the display but when pedaling my multi meter shows nil response on all wires to and from the pedal sensor

That doesn't mean the sensor is faulty. It's more likely something else. Measure the voltage between the red and black pins while it's connected and switched on. You should have 5v. if you don't have 5v, the problem is somewhere else.

Did you measure with the actual sensor connected? I think not.

12.84 with sensor connected :S i opened up the controller and found a capacitor (50v 1000uf) in pretty bad shape so ive desoldered it and replaced with a new one now the controller has a led that flashes continuiusly power button batt monitor and dashboard still working ok but still no drive :(

Connect the sensor and power it up. Measure between the black wire and the signal wire while you rotate the pedal slowly. You should see approx 5v going on and off. Tell us what you get.

I have seen another one that showed 12v, which puzzled me, but when I measured the sensor output, it was switching 5v, so I measured the supply again and it had gone down to the normal 5v, which puzzled me even more because it wouldn't show 12v again.

Also, you should verify the voltage measurement from your meter by checking it on a known voltage. When the battery goes flat, the readings go high.
