You have either blown MOSFETs in the controller (most likely) or a short in the motor cable (not so likely). Sometimes, the bullet connectors melt on the controller end of the motor cable, which causes a short. That is quite a common problem, so look there first.

If you don't find any damage on the motor cable, you can confirm the blown MOSFETs by a simple resistance check with a meter efore buying a new controller.

You should've asked first before spending money.

I have returned the item and awaiting refund so a new controller will fix the issue then?

It ok he bought the motor from me on e bay , I have it back and Tom’s been refunded .

100% not the motor . I was unsure if his problem was the BB PAS sensor found on Crossfire or his controller.

I sent him the “ how to test your e bike page you sent me then suggested he becomes a member .

Welcome Tom

Be good to try and nail the problem save me posting things out them accepting returns on used items

I am going to set up a Carrera , Suntours testing service on e bay for around a tenner save me posting things and trips to the post office only to have the bits returned

Great stuff.

Does his version have a normal cadence pedal sensor or a torque sensor?

Does his version have a 2-wire battery?

If those answers are both yes, he can use any controller, which gives him the chance to get something decent.

No he has the latest Carrera with comms , Crossfire I think used around 700miles .
So he will have the Suntours BB PAS not sure if they are Candence or Torque assume it Torque as the rest of the Suntours kit Works with this set up they are hard to get used and cost around £120.00 new .

So the six pin PAS and the Crank that goes with it is an option going to I have a new set in stock and I have a used or new controller that will fit his bike .

If we can not identify the problem he can always send both his BB and controller to me and I will bench test them and supply the part he needs .

Rather than sending components back and forth .

Ok so just had a thought the latest Carrera Suntours Crank and Pas works on light and is a Torque sensor.

Does that mean a Suntours BB PAS sensor would be a Candence sensor ? And does this mean it does not use light inside the BB ?

Torque sensors normally have two parts: One is a sensor arrangement to measure torque, and the other is an arrangement to measure pedal speed. The first Suntour devices fitted on the Crossfire had an arrangement that could measure both at the same time using light pulses. That was the one with the big chainwheel thing that had the sensor screwed to the back, which was always breaking or causing other trouble.

Yes the one on the chain wheel bolted to the side is problematic if the bike owner does not keep the crank clean and serviced , they tend to seize then the sensor moves and breaks .

Also they have rubber seals that fail adding to the seizing problem.

The Suntours BB combined PAS sensor is much better but a bit more expensive and very expensive compared to good China components.

I got caught out in a downpour yesterday on top of the Brent Cross Flyover nearly got blew off the bike and driving rain made it hard to see with no where to get shelter , when I got in I looked like I had a dip in a swimming pool .

I think had I been on a Carrera with the latest small screen there is a possibility it would be broken now same with the Suntours motor water ingress is one of the many problems on these bikes .

The KT and Bafang combo is ok although seems fine but I did run a hair dryer over the bike when I got home .
