So I'm buying a 250w Dillinger fat bike.

The handlebar display is a Dillinger C965.

Can the C965 be hacked/modded for a bit more speed on private ground?

I'm presuming fitting a larger front chain ring will reduce acceleration but add some top speed.

Answers on a postcard to this very post please.

Thanks in advance.

I do know this and that is why it would only be used on private land where I have permission, which I do.

250 watts, offroad and with fat tyres probably wont have the power to go faster than the set limit anyway especially if you weigh more than 14 stone.
Putting a bigger chainwheel on could even make it go slower.

Yes wont make much difference with that weight power ratio , and could cause knee problems

A new controller or shunt mod won't increase speed but will give more torque.

48v would give up to 25% more speed, though any controller needs to be15/16a rated max.
If existing controller is 15a it may work or go pop, If so a 48v one would be needed but then compatability with the c965 might be an issue.

If you battery could discharge 30 amps and you got a 15amp controller then it's only discharging half but if you had a higher amp controller then you will have more torque and abit more speed I had 20mph on my old 36v 8ah battery now with 48v 20ah battery I get 30mph that's with shunt mod
