Hi all. Something just happend to my Freego Eagle that I need a bit of advice on??. I was riding along the flat using the throttle (rare for me ) when I lost all power! Tried everything checked the connections/turned on/off etc but nothing!! At home done the same + took off and cleaned the sensors on the brakes but nothing??. I then released the cables on the disc brakes and readjusted them and hey presto they worked SORTOF?? The pedal sensors worked and the throttle worked and stopped when the brakes were applied but carried on powering the motor slowly on its own?? I then readjusted the brakes and it worked fine!!.then went to the pub and when I got there it did it again??? I phoned my dealer and he phoned Freego and they suggested disconnecting the throttle ???? and try that?? (why has it got one if they want me to disable it???) any ideas. Steve.

Sounds more like a brake sensor is sticking and causing the motor to stop working.
Try disconnecting the brake sensors on the controller and see if that helps.

Brakes should cut all power and not be able to leave any residual power trickling to the motor. This sounds more like a controller problem to me. Your dealer should be able to isolate the faulty component, but you can try disconnecting all but the pedal sensor. If that works then disconnect the pedal sensor and reconnect the throttle to compare. Then try both together and finally add the brakes in turn.
If both the pedal sensor and the throttle fail to work then it is quite likely the controller is faulty.

Finding my (electric) wheels
Hi Steve,
I have just spoken to Peter and he is very happy to have a look at the if it happens again, I do not know who said to disconnect the throttle but I will find out, the idea of FreeGo customer service is that our dealers are fully trained to sort any issues with the bikes so if anything happens then please take it back to the dealer.

Thanks Steve and I hope you are well.

Only a long shot, but I read somewhere that the controller can get confused if it recieves conflicting signals from the throttle and the Pedelec system as well. General advice would appear to be: switch off the pedelec assist when throttling it, and vice versa, switch the throttle off if you are on pedelec mode.

Apparently the controller thinks there is a fault and shuts the power off!!

I should point out that I am an electrical Numpty and don't really know what I'm banging on about, but felt it was worth a mention anyway.

Thanks Martin. Nice to hear someone from Freego and if it happens again I will contact Peter. Just to say that the Eagle I have now is very good and not a problem untill this apart from the brakes which the rear pads were stuffed after 4 weeks as when i checked they were binding all the time and the bottom two thirds were down nearly to the metal!! I put in new pads and adjusted them and HEY PRESTO the back wheel would freewheel?? and it's been fine since. Perhaps this one got through the quality control checks but I knew something was different as I was using 1 gear higher all the time??. But thanks for a great bike and I get people all the time saying how good it looks. Steve.

Thanks Steve, I am a bit concerned about the discs, all bikes go through a pre delivery inspection at the dealer, have you mentioned this to Peter?

Brakes

Hi Martin. Yeah I did mention it to Peter a few days ago and he said he couldn't understand how it could happen but it's done now and the next time I buy some pads it will be sintered ones as I think they have better performance & last longer!!. The problem with the motor cutting out was I think caused by the front brake sensor as when I was riding home I noticed a lead hanging down wich turned out to the front brake sensor wich had broken loose (I think when the handlebars swing around when on it's stand) so I stuck it back with duct tape and it's been fine since !!. But I will phone Peter in the morning and tell him as it will need a new one and now the front light refuses to work??. Steve

I think you maybe right as I was using the throttle at the time and then started pedalling ??? and I have also noticed that if the red button is pressed (throttle) then the power drops to about half power which is enoying as you can hit the red button accidently when changing gear and wonder why it's getting harder to pedal .
