Power to crank drive ?

Anybody know time delay ( if there is one?) between stopping peddaling and power being cut to drive unit...??? Generally on CD units but specifically Yamaha. Listening to how mine changes gear I suspect there is a short delay, makes sense after all we pedal in pulses, don't think average rider produces continuos power.( Certainly no power going in when either pedal at TDC from any rider). Suspect if there were no delay in cutting power CD would be continually switching on and off...but delay will have an effect on braking ???

Legal limit:

"b) assistance shall be cut off when the cyclist stops pedalling forward such that the cut off distance does not exceed 5 m with the use of brake lever cut off switch or 2 m without the use of brake lever cut off switch.
This requirement has to be checked according to the test methods described in 4.2.4.2.2 b);"

25 km/h = 6.94444 metres/second so it has to cut off in either .72 seconds with switches or .29 seconds without them in the worst gas scenario (top speed braking).

My controller does pretty well, the motor stops providing power instantly (subjectively as soon as the pedal stops turning).

7 metres is quite a long way. I did a real world test last week when a silly xxxxx pulled out from her parking space directly in front of me and I had to lock both wheels in order to not smash my face against her windscreen (she was parked on the wrong side of the road). Yes I was wearing my fluorescent yellow wind breaker... And no, she hadn't seen me coming. I was doing about 25 km/h at the time.

I was coming at it from changing gear. Always had habit of stopping pedal to change, then repowering gently..found to get no power change I had to delay slightly. Cassette copes fine either way, but I could hear there was power on chain even with a stationary pedal, fraction delay and there isn't. I,d have guessed tength,s of seconds which is in line with your answer.(another kiwi)

Standard of driving never ceases to amaze me...I almost got run off road on country lane Sunday...

My gsm CD kit with integrated controller takes too long in my opinion- probably under a second (just about)

Wish it was instant , delay makes zero sense to me

Think if it was instant motor would be switching on and off as you pedal. ( if its sensing torque) I think yam has both torque and speed sensor but not sure which one takes precedent switching motor off..
Having used mine for about 50 miles off road I can see point with the Bosch not switching on immediately pedals move but wouldn't describe switching on immediately as a fault..just different.
Cant fault bike..
