Have picked up , for nothing, a Rayleigh Velo XC, Ladies e-bike

PAS only, dead battery.
On opening it, two parallel groups at zero volts.

Made temporary re pack with LiPo cells, connected up balance wires

Battery outputs full pack voltage, ( well 41 volts at moment)

Controller outputs 5 volt to rear axle torque sensor.

Battery indicator on battery shows full

Handle bar display has lost its cover,
It has three buttons I have ID'd as
power
Assist level (x2?)
Lights... none fitted

Three green LED's. battery ?
Two orange LED's Assist level ?
Red... light on/off

When Power button pressed, sometimes all three greens come on and stay on, sometimes they sequence, sometimes all three flash simultaneously, until assist button cycled

Motor never runs... even with 3-4 volts applied to yellow torque sensor input

Any one any clues?
What does flashing greens indicate ?

Can someone give definite ID of the bike and likely year

Thanks

3 Green leds on handle bar are battery level indicators, orange leds are assist levels. Bike is probably 3 or 4 years old.
Check the two part pas sensor by the front chain rings and the gap about 1- 2mm.
Motor connection on the front fork. Pull it a part and make sure there are no bent pins, reconnect it correctly (Make sure the arrows are lined up first) until a faint click is heard or there may be a stop line marked.
Other possibility is the hub motor, it is not a powerful motor and may have had it.

Motor connector. ! doh ! I had unplugged it to check the terminals. The first thing I did. I never looked again.... and never plugged it back in !

Works fine when plugged in !

Great result NeilP :), a free bike a bit of battery tinkering and it all works ticketyboo now.

The original pack is 10s4p, but two blocks of 4p are dead.

As soon as my battery tab welder arrives I'll either convert to 10s3p and accept reduced Ah, or make up the dead 4p packs with salvaged cells.

Will be OK at reduced Ah for the old lady who wants it , 4-5 mile round trips to shop will be about it.

Check the two part pas sensor by the front chain rings and the gap about 1- 2mm.
No PAS sensor on crank on this model or rotation sensor of any type, or speed sensor on front wheel.
Just has a torque sensor plate on the rear axle.

I may well parallel this with a thumb throttle to give manual control.

I see a purple and black pair of wires on the controller. might be a brake cut off. I'd wire that too if I fitted a throttle.

Any idea what voltage the controller might be capable of going up to ? not stripped it yet to look at FETs and Caps.
