Help! Replace brushed motor

I have had a Smarta bike for nine years which had served me well and been very reliable but now I am thinking that the motor is coming to the time it will be needing replaced, the question is can I for a brushless motor to it as in say just plug in a Bafang 8 fun. Or is there more to it as I don't see a large control box on this bike.
