Ok so i have now pretty much completed my first e bike conversion apart from a slight fault which stops the bike starting sometimes (er 30) unless batteries left unplugged for about 12 hours, New part is on the way that will hopefully fix this fault, have to first say thanks to the help of a few members on this forum for all the time they took answering a load of questions I had, I'm now looking at building a second bike but this time I want a bike capable of very fast speeds so was thinking maybe 5000w 106v rear hub motor to start with then maybe upgrading to 2wd further down the line, I have not bought any bike yet to convert but was thinking this time maybe going for a hard tail so id have plenty of room to mount bigger batteries and controllers, BMSbattery only sell up to 1000w so i had a look elsewhere and seen a few motors on ali express and arround 3000w @ 106v, also been looking at those crystalite wheels, Can anyone suggest a good high speed rear hub motor then i will buy a suitable bike to fit it to.

5Kw is motorcycle territory. The bike Needs serious brakes frame etc.
Convert a learner bike! Then all the fiddling and misc parts should be upto scratch.
Then you need helmet and leathers etc.

Especially off road as you will fall off and injuries will happen.
Best to minimise them.

I agree, make it motorcycle based. Your input of circa 200 watts will be so puny compared to the 5000 watts from the motor it's not worth having the pedals.

At speeds of up to 100 mph he needs more than 125 rolling gear.

I don’t know where he lives but riding something like the bike in the clip in the UK at anything like those speeds will get him nicked before he needs to recharge it.

:eek:5kw are you sure, there won,t be many places to use it with out attracting the wrong attention.
Stalkingcat and Banbury Frank (zipi bikes) build illegals in that league.

Ok so maybe 5Kw might be too much then if it needs a motorcycle frame, What is the fastest hub motor available that would fit into a standard sized hard tail mountain bike, I don't want any hassle from the law so the less it looks like a motor bike the better, The bike will be used mostly off road on mountain paths and private land, what about a 3Kw motor or one of the crystalite hub motors??

Campbell have a look at the uk off road threads and post your Q's there as it is the ideal place.

Yes, both our Offroad section and the Endless Sphere forum are the best places for this subject.

Due to our restrictive laws there's very little information available on such high powers in the UK and mainland Europe. The ES international forum has appropriately knowledgeable contributors.
