I've just fitted a Suntour SP12-NCX suspension seat post and can thoroughly recommend. It's a very fluid action with no jerkiness and I think as close to rear suspension as you will get on a hardtail.
A little expensive though I got mine on offer (along with the required shim) from Rose bikes, sadly the offer has now ended.

They look good, but i'm about 15kg too heavy. The Cane Creek Thudbuster would be the one for me i think, but it's over twice the price.

I'm right on the top limit and it's OK, nowhere near bottoming out but maybe an extra 15kg would be too much.
You can get a softer spring but I don't see any mention of a harder option.
It would be handy if you could try one, I don't suppose you live near the Cairngorm National Park?.

I borrowed a thudbuster from my dad's old bike for a while, and you can alter the weight with some heavier duty bushes - not sure whether the suntour will fit the same bushes as i've never seen one up close, but might be worth checking.

I never managed to bottom it out, but the heavier duty bushes made it a bit more jarry before it kicked in.

I've just downloaded the online manual available here SR SUNTOUR Cycling and it states there are harder springs available for heavier riders. maybe worth contacting Suntour and verifying this as the manual shows the earlier model though the only difference seems to be the seat clamp.
