The good old days?

A friend gave me a batch of fascinating air force mags from 1947. I found this ad in one of them.

The price compared to the average wage of about £4 per week is an eye opener.

I was a toddler at the time but it makes me realise what a sacrifice my dad made when he bought me a bike a couple of years later.

Sorry if too far off electric topic, I thought it might be of interest. If admin slaps me on the wrist, I will understand.

It is totally appropriate for the electric section especially when you do this:

Electrify Your Bike - The DIY Way

There is a bit of a retro movement on gentlemans bicycles at the moment, I have my eye on a Hercules, trying to haggle the local seller down a bit. Will I electrify it?......probably, don't think the rod brakes will stop me though lol

That looks like a mid to top of the range model (for its time), sort of Wisper 905 specs. There were many cheaper models available by BSA and others at the time. They were also built to last for many years.
VAT at 17½% seems quite a bargain compared to the old Purchase Tax. ;)
