Hullo and a very happy christmas and new year to everybody (LOHoHo's)

Actually this is a very tedious thread indeed concerning the replacement of a throttle on an Urban Mover36. Previous one hasn't worked for awhile so I have replaced it with a new standard h.e. 3 wire throttle - previous had 5 wires, pos, neg, signal, 24v supply to built in battery indicater and another negative.
So on removing and replacing the old unit, the new basic throttle only works with the motor already activated by the PAS. The new 3 wire unit will not start the bike alone but requires some pedalling input first. Does anyone know anything about why this is so or is it just one of these weird Maya'n things that are happening today?

The bike has an old NMH 24v battery and is seriously underpowered and apparently not great for the hills.

seasons greetings, hech.

Some bikes require you to pedal before the throttle can operate. Are you saying that it wasn't like that with the old throttle?

A guy on one of the forums got a controller like that from BMSBattery. He opened it up and found an extra wire that shorted one of the pads to earth. He cut the wire and it behaved like a normal controller.
Here''s a picture of it.pas start.jpg

Oh okay Dave, I wasn't aware of that additional functionality, that probably explains it. Don't know how it operated before as it's not my bike but I may look into the controller and look for the short.
Like so many ebikes around I'm sure that with a little more power they could be really decent useable machines. Doubt if it runs any more than about 200 watts which seems scarcely helpful in our souped up millenium! I appreciate your help, thanks and HC!
