have just bought my first watts up meter and need to know if the leads from the battery have to be the heavy 12g or can i take spur of in a lighter wire to run up to the bars ? no instructions supplied. also there is a smaller socket in the side of the meter ?

please ignore have just found some diagrams on line and it has to be wired in line with heavy gauge. a little disapointed as it looks like i will have to mount it close to the battery if i dont want any power loss in the wire length.
