Hi

I have a Lappierre overvolt shaper which is running on the following tyres

700c wheels running on Schwalbe Durano E Raceguard tyres x 38C.

I am wanting to swap the rims and tyres to MTB tyres, is it as simple as buying 700c wheels and MTB tyres to suit or is there more to it

Ideally I want to take the road wheels and tyres off complete and store and put a new set on including discs and rear block
Any input appreciated

Regards
Andy

Typically a 45mm tyre and 650b wheel package will have the same rolling radius as a 28mm tyre on a 700c wheel package.

To allow for the increased dimension of a typical MTB tyre you will need to drop to a 650b wheel, as a 700c (29er) with an MTB tyre will foul the frame if it wasn't designed to accept it. This only works with disc brakes but other than that it should be quite straight forward. You will need a cassette with similar range otherwise you may have to adjust/replace the chain every time you swap wheels.

The 650b wheel and tyre package should give a more comfortable ride due to the higher volume tyres.

Been looking around and see were your coming from with the sizes
I take it if I changed to a set of 29r wheels MTB tyres they would catch on the frame
By reducing to 27.5 I take it would eliminate this

Also I see you have different widths hubs, different thickness quick release spindals, six bolt discs, quick release rear blocks etc
What a nightmare
Gone the times of nipping to the local bike shop and buying a wheel by budget not spec LOL

So know I've got to find a decent but cheap set of wheels

Any help appreciated

Thanks
Andy

Look for some with 36 spokes per wheel, e-bikes need the additional strength and weight isn't an issue.

Just over a year ago I bought all the parts and built myself a pair of wheels. Interesting task which I spent about 4 hours per wheel building and truing. You won't save a lot but you will learn slot.

My wife's bike has 700C wheels and tyres, I've tried a 27.5 wheel from MTB on it and it works. Plus side is more clearance between mudguards, a must if using off road in muddy conditions. Get slightly lower gear which is good off road, downside is 25km/hr assist cutoff will now be lower actual speed.

I plan build a new rear wheel from my scrap 26" MTB, hub, disc and gears are fine just need new rim. Haven't built a wheel since I was a kid trying make a 40spoke hub fit a 36spoke rim, didn't work. Can't remember it being to difficult, just takes time, luckily now we have YouTube.

No experience and no tools, I bought a decent spoke wrench although most of the build you use a screwdriver on the back of the nipple. I fashioned a truing station from an old pair of forks for the front and my turbo trainer for the rear.
