Hi Bob,
About 500.. There are a few things that need to be tweaked and checked, and I am not mechanically minded, so I'm happy to invest in the service. I'll let you know how it goes.

Great Winter service from 50Cycles

Hi Folks,
Thought I'd report back on the 50c service. The Agattu came back yesterday and I took her out for a test ride today ( not long.. isn't it bloody cold!!). The bike feels fantastic.. much more responsive again and everything working as new.

The logistical arrangements all went very smoothly and Mark has been superb. I emailed a few times with various requests and queries and he reported back promptly and sorted them all out. No problems to report with either the bike or the service. There was a one day delay on the return leg but Mark replaced brake blocks, rear brake cable and a couple of other things for free. Can't say fairer than that. All together I am more than satisfied with the service and feel that both the mechanical and the electrical parts of the bike have received some serious TLC from the people who know how it ticks ( or hums).

For those of us who are cackhanded and don't know one end of a spanner from the other.. definitely well worth the dosh..:)

not wanting to rain on your parade - but does it seem reasonable to have to replace brake blocks and cables on a premium product such as the Agattau after a mere 500 miles? I should think that they did replace them foc! Does the £50 include the cost of two way carriage back to 50 cycles?

I'm asking 'cos I'm considering an Agutta now that my employer is (finally!) about to launch a salary sacrifice scheme, but it's a long way from the North East down to Loughborough if things go wrong with the bike and we've no electric bike dealers anywhere close to me...

Hi John,
I commute up and down two extremely long, steep hills every day and use my brakes almost constantly on my journey. So the wear on the brakes would be expected. Not sure about why Mark had to replace the cable though.

I suppose it is reasurring to know that experts have checked the motor etc..

The cost was £80 which included delivery and return + delivery of a box which I didn't have. A bit steep perhaps but if you ahve your box it's £70.

Good to hear that the Winter Service has gone well. Thanks for taking the lead and reporting back.

Much experience will have been gained during the first year of the Kalkhoff ebikes, and it makes a lot of sense to have the bike checked out for the upcoming year.

Just completed two full days of commuting and I must say the bike feels brilliant, post service.. Everything is so much more responsive including the motor and gears. Mark cleaned, re-oiled & greased all moving parts and now gears are smooth and clean as a freshly scrubbed babies behind. Consequently the motor reacts better to changes.

Also, I couldn't believe how much I'd let tyre pressure deteriorate. I pump up every week but it is difficult to maintain pressure with the woods valves. I think low pressure also impacts on bike and rider performance.

Can anyone recommend inexpensive (incl. postage!!) schrader adaptors that workand a cheap but effective track pump?

It is great to have what feels like a brand new bike back..:)

So big thumbs up and once again I'd like to thank Mark at 50C for a job well done.

Woods valves aren't difficult to get up to pressure, I easily manage to get my front up to 85psi. I think you just need a half decent pump with both type of connectors.

I didnt think you could get that kind of pressure into a innertube on my kalkhoff i would normally go to a bout 50psi that feels about right i am always worried that the tube might explode:confused: NIGEL.

The limit is sometimes down to the rim and when it starts to buckle, other times it is the blow off point for the tyre which is not as obvious as you'd think but your tube won't explode without something else failing first. You shouldn't have any trouble going to the top pressure written on the side of the tyres that came with the bike.

Videos

Hi

Check that Maintenance Videos on 50cycles forum, still a bit fiddly for my fingers but great for customers when they get the bike. Might save some cash on serviceing, I wonder who is presenting the video.

i reckon i might do one next year. I have no idea on my mileage mind, probably around 1000. Nice to hear it went well.

re woods valve adaptors i got mine from my lbs, they had them behind the counter and they are very nice folk. Some of the online folks will waive postage for a small item if you phone them.

Hi
just got my agattu back from a level 2 service which cost £150 while iam quite satisfied i think it would be quite handy to know what has been replaced sure i can see new brake blocks and maybe new brake cables but not sure what other work was carried out yes i know what it says on the 50cycles website but i think some kind of paperwork or a checklist of work compleated would be fair:D and maybe a reference of future work if needed:) nigel.

I agree Nigel,
It was the one thing I would have liked, as you would receive with a car service. I emailed 50c with this suggestion when I got the bike back. It would also be useful for cycle to work purposes where regular maintenance is part of the deal.

Have you been out on it yet?
