Hi

Picked the new bike up yesterday from TETS in Cambridge.

Did a 21 mile run last night and 19 this morning all on one charge.

Average Speed obtained was 18.6mph.

Have changed seat to a Rido R2 and this was definately a wise move.

Added my bike bins!

Grips have been changed also as I found the ones on the bike were not particularly good and slipped around too much.

Overall this bike is absolutley fantastic and I literally cannot fault it it any way apart from personal preference as above.

Will post some pictures tomorrow when I can get the huge grin off my face.

WOW this really is a formidable piece of kit!!!

Best Regards to All

You have a different throttle so normal grips won't fit. If it's the same full length throttle I have with a soft grip then you are a bit stuck, the grip is a bespoke size to fit on the throttle so you can't buy them from a shop and Wisper doesn't have any spares. :(
I took mine off and turned it round a bit so the wear area moved.
If you just want to change the left hand side then that's easy. :)

Mine are split...so I really need replacement's

I put double-sided tape underneath to stop them slipping around.

Motorcycle grips should fit - I've just been out with my measuring tape and I can confirm that the handlebar on my Honda and that on the Wisper are of similar diameter. The motorbike ones are about 3mm longer but that shouldn't be a problem.

The inside of the grip has a pattern of teeth to stop it sliding round the throttle, IIRC that is not a standard feature of motorcycle grips so unfortunately they won't work together. It is a good idea and it may be a workable bodge in emergencies. :)

Ah, I think I see what you mean. I haven't got to the point yet on the Wisper when I might have a problem, so wasn't tempted to peel off the throttle grip. The other one did slip around the bar though and so I've applied a spot of rubber cement from a puncture outfit, which has locked it nicely into place.

The grip length seems to be pretty standard - when I looked at the soft grips on my unpowered mountain bike after my previous post they are slightly longer than the motorbike grips.

300 mile service

Ok so i've had the bike for 6 days now and have completed the 300 miles for the first service and it has gone in today for spokes etc to be done. The grips were changed from my Raleigh Metro and these work fantastic. I trimmed the right side grip to correct length and when i twist this it stays in place and holds the throttle to 100% all the time. Still averaging 19 mph on all trips and do round trip to work of 40 miles per day + use it now for shopping a literally everyting. Have also gone from 15stone 12 pounds to 15 stone dead in the six days and trying to get to target weight of 13stone in two months. THIS BIKE IS FANTASTIC. The Rido R2 seat is invaluable as absolutely no pain at all. Will post some pics later of the bike. A VERY HAPPY WHISPER OWNER.:) :)

Glad you enjoy it, I found I didn't lose much weight but I lost inches from my measurements and needed new clothes. :)

Weight Loss

I think the fact that it stops me pulling into a garage and buying chocolate bars might have something to do with it!!!

Bins

Hi David

Got them from BikeBins.com. They are brilliant and completely easy to fit and use in all weather. Could not be without them.

The bike is brilliant and I do 40-50 miles per day on it without a second thought. We have worked out that with the cycle to work scheme and what i save in company petrol it will have paid for itself in 4 months.

My congratulations to Wisper on an excellent product.:D :D

Good Call! :) I've just sucessfully replaced both grips with £5 pair, the only difficulty, if you can call it that, was removing the old one from the throttle (done with patience & gentle application of tyre levers). Mussels was right in saying that the throttle is moulded to hold the original in place, but luckily the new ones are made from stretchy enough rubber to fit over it (with a drop of washing-up liquid) and grip it tightly.

They're the rippled ones from here btw: Motorcycle Accessories - Fast Bike Bits : Bar Grips

Thanks again for the tip :)

is your bike the earlier single throttle? and if so will these fit straight on?

Yes, it's the original full grip throttle, as I said removing the old grip needs a bit of care and patience to work off as it's pretty tightly fitted, The other thing is that as you have to stretch the new grip over the plastic moulding underneath, it looks slightly fatter than the LH one that goes straight onto the bar. They're also a little longer,so you do end up with a slightly floppy end (as it were), but only by about 3-4mm.

Thanks! will order a pair :)

Would it be easier to cut of original with a Stanley knife?

I guess it might be, but thought I'd leave myself the option of putting the old ones back on in case the new didn't fit ;) You also might damage the throttle itself doing this. Oh, btw, be careful not to try to pull the wrog bit off, where the grip meets the part with the red button, there is what looks like a thin plastic disc that moves with the throttle - this is actually the end of the moulding underneath, and so stays on. Oh, yes, the other part is that the new grips are actualy two different sizes (slightly), and the bigger one is the thottle side.
