While I like my new Woosh CD Sport, I am having some concerns with the components. I have noticed when pressure is applied to the pedals there is a definate creaking sound, at first I ignored it as I just thought it a gear problem, or just something catching on the M.guards, Gears adjusted ok now and quiet. Looking at the peddle area if you grip the pedal with your hand and apply pressure the whole pedal rocks through the bottom bearing, moving the motor as well, there is prob a couple of mills play, riding thecbike with littke or no pressure applied to the pedals is quiet, its only when you push on the pedals you get the creaking sound. Is this what you call the bottom bracket ?. Should it have any play on it at all, why is it wearing out , bikes only done 289 miles. How easy is it to replace, i possibly could get the repair through Woosh as I think the warranty is stllvalid even though I am second owner, I am though having some doubts on some of the component quality, and would prefer to fit better quality replacment parts, this is in no way getting at Woosh, I do realise its a budget bike, and am in general happy with the bike. Any advice appreciated . Thanks

It's likely to be the motor unit bolts holding it to the frame need tightening, this creaking being a common problem on the Panasonic crank units too. The units are bolted into the painted frame so it's inevitable that with pedal forces twisting the unit from side to side some early bedding down will occur.

The bolts need to very tight.

The Woosh unit doesn't have bolts as such. It mounts through the bottom bracket with a retaining nut. It's prevented from rotating by two dogs that fit into notches in the bottom bracket tube. My guess is that the retaining nut has come loose, although even that sounds unlikely.

I guess you have to take the left-hand crank off. Then, IIRC, there's a couple of screws that hold the pedal sensor. I've never looked in there, but I guess that behind the pedal sensor is a ring nut or some sort.

n my santa ana cd the creaking noises were due to the crank arms being loose - it seems (from my LBS) that the crank arms are inferior and that the alloy rounded and the bolts loosened. I contacted Woosh who at first agreed to send crank arms and have it installed at the LBS(they wer due to send one anyway because the arm on mine was damaged in transit/delivery) but the insisted that it was a maintenance issue and that I hadn't maintained the crank.
anyhiuew (as Stewie in family guy might say) the helpful local LBS have tightened the bolts and for now it seems OK. There are several bodges on the internet for loose crank arms (and all seem decidedly less painful than altercations with importers of Chinese bicycles)

I think it probably is this retaining nut thats loose, turning the bike upside down can see the two retaining dogs you mention, they move about in the frame slots and the motor is quite loose to the frame.

You don't get a lot of luck do you? I've never heard of that problem before. I hope you don't need anything special to tighten the nut.

You got me thinking about maybe needing something special to tighten this nut, so I managed sneak phone call to Woosh from work. You were right it does need a special tool to tighten the nut, its some sort of cup nut. Anway there posting one out to me today on loan, to return to them afterwards. I'm impressed, its not as if I bought the bike new from them. Service like this needs shouting about WELL DONE WOOSH :) :)

Seconded, Well done Woosh!

This is in stark contrast to the Bosch problems currently being posted about.

woosh have a special tool to tighten the silver bottom bracket cup on the non-drive side. It needs to be done up quite tight (don't fret when you push hard on the lever).
They can lend it to you or you can buy it for about £5. PM Hatti, she'll sort you out.

Make sure the dogs/pins are in their notches when you tighten it.
