Converting to belt drive
Thanks all. Yes, its a common frame with the belt drive version of the bike, so has the split downward chainstay. Guess I will have to find a friendly Cube dealer, unfortunately most shops will have youngsters with a "why would you want to do that" attitude, not knowing that sometimes a customer will have more engineering knowledge than they can ever hope to have. I run my current gearing with an extra tooth on the front end, works well, but yes, agreed I will need to be careful with gearing on a belt as seem to be less of a selection of lengths and sprockets. Cheers.

Converting to belt drive
Hi, I have a Cube SUV hybrid pro, (8 speed hub gear, chain drive) which also came at the time as a Hybrid SL, which had a belt drive. Both had the Bosch mid drive at the time (2015 /16/17 model years) The frame has a link to enable the belt fitting. Question is, how easy would it be to change to a belt drive? Do the belt drive sprockets slip straight onto the bosch splines? same for the 8 speed hub gear? Also, where can I pick up the spare parts for the conversion! Thanks!

Clicking from motor
They are cheap alloy pedals with synthetic bearings, I’m not going to worry too much, but thanks:) A quality pedal would have got a strip and lube.

CrossCountry / XC with rear suspension
Found one, Cannondale Topstone Lefty. Its a "gravel bike" and 5k, so at the top end of affordability. My riding has gone more road over the winter, with a few urban and dirt sections, Im liking this new name for electric cyclocross they are calling electric gravel bikes. Probably hit the trails when they dry out a bit in the spring, to see if im still needing such a beast!

Doh, it was a pedal! Sprayed WD40 in the pedal bearing, noise gone!

Bosch Active line ECU? Where is is?
I will keep my Bosch mid motor running as long as I can. After 5 years HARD use and zero maintinance, it needs a bit of love currently, I would have considered a brand new one again, but as I like travelling round my country estate at 22mph, Bosch have stopped my buying a new one with the anti-dongle nonsense. Otherwise, love it, you couldnt say anything to convince me otherwise even with a 250 quid bill looming to replace all the bearings in it.

Clicking from motor
Just tightened my motor cradle bolts (5 of them) and still clicking. Tightened the 2 bolts on the ends of the cranks too. The clicking is a similar click as to when the drive engages statically, and a bit similar to the click when you wheel the bike backwards. im kind of OK if its the motor and how I use it, at the mileage its at. Thanks!

Bosch Active line ECU? Where is is?
OK, if its in the Motor thats fine thanks. Was fairly sure the battery was independant, as lots of people have 2 batts to swap round. On the subject of chains, I beat up on my bike, sometimes lube it when it gets squeaky, cleaned maybe 3 times in its life, and the original chain did me 2,000 miles, I only replaced it when I felt the chain tensioner had gone a bit far...!!

Good tip, thank you, I will try that!

Clicking from motor
The pedals backpedal with ease, there is no noise or undue roughness. I can only just feel side to side play in the crank by holding the crank at the ends by the pedals, the movement is only just detectable. If I push on a pedal static, there is a bit of noise where I take up slack in the internal gears I guess, but its a different noise to the click, click. This taking up the slack is the same through a complete rotation whereever I take up the slack. The click click is less than 90 degrees apart, with the rest of the 270+ degree crank rotation with no noise. Only when im riding. I cant get it to do it by having the bike on a stand and doing the pedals by hand. Cheers!

Bosch Active line ECU? Where is is?
Hi, where is the memory or ECU part of the Bosch setup? Like what part contains all the diagnostics info that the dealers plug into? I was wondering which parts of the system I can change, without needing to goto a dealer to plug in a computer for setup. I guessing the battery has its own diagnostic memory to know the amount of charges, and swapping batterys is no issue, so what part contains the rest of the info? Can you swap out motors or displays? Thanks - Geoff.

Clicking from motor
Hi, got a Cube from 2015 with a Bosch Drive Unit Active Cruise motor. Its developed an odd clicking from the motor unit, like a double click on the LH pedal stroke. Its much of a click sound. Is this repairable? New bearings, or components required? Where do I go for these please? Thanks!

The marketing blurb does sound good. Not really into 29 inch wheels though. Cheers!

CrossCountry / XC with rear suspension
Didnt know how to broach the question, so dumbed it down a lot ;-) great reply, so yes I do want mostly what I cant have, but we do need to recognize that most bikes are called by their discipline, although names change like fads, im sure a modern gravel bike is just a new take on a cyclocross? It was my assumption an XC or cross -country bike would be a full suspension trail bike, a trail bike like what we all rode in the early 90s with no suspension and called mountain bikes, before mountain bikes got too fat, too large wheels etc. I know stuff evolves, when the gap gets too big, the normal and mundane does come and fill the gap. Anyway, I just dont want a huge 29 inch wheel thing, there are no "mountains" where I live, not really any hills, its just im getting old and I think a bit of rear suspension would be nice, along with the age assistance the motor gives! Cheers!

Dongle on latest Bosch or Yamaha? Been told the software can tell.
Thanks! Stops me in my tracks from buying another Bosch or Shimano... I love the blurb though that is can "damage" your motor so much... didnt Bosch used to be in the market when Speed Pedelecs were legally about in Germany etc?

Have you got a link please?

Dongle on latest Bosch or Yamaha? Been told the software can tell.
Above say 10mph, the speedo only reads half speed with one of these speed clips. Thats really easy to work out though... On the original topic though, I think manufacturers will make a bit of mistake by trying too hard to not allow tuning. Sure, I dont mind it being difficult, stop most idiots doing it, as if it takes some knowledge to tune, then you should have common sense too...

CrossCountry / XC with rear suspension
Hi, had my Cube Ebike for 5 years now. Its a hardtail, I ride it 80% road, but I do like some off road when I find some trails. I have always built or set my bikes up to be XC/Crosscoutry/Gravel, before these sayings even existed, and im struggling with how the rear suspension bikes are going, with super huge 29s, and even 27.5 bikes having super huge suspension, even fatter tyres etc. In the non-ebike world, the high quality/pro XC bikes with rear suspension still has some slenderness, sharp handling and balance, but im not sure if Ebike world has got there yet? Or not that I can find now? Maybe 5 years ago? So im looking for 27.5 rims, but without super fatties, on a more slender full suspension, but with smaller travel than a full "mountain" bike. It needs to be a quality piece of kit, built for crosscountry, rather than the budget end of a mountain bike range. If it costs 5k, so be it. Head tube angle ideally in the 69-70 degree range is the key to sharper handling. Does such a thing exist for 2020/2021? Thanks!

Yes, its a badass dongle I have currently. Still on original battery too!

Dongle on latest Bosch or Yamaha? Been told the software can tell.
Hi, I have had my Cube SUV Hybrid since 2015, and when I ride it round my estate, I clip on a dongle which does the usual. (Bosch Active Line, 400w/h battery) Thinking of upgrading to an XC style with a bit of rear suspension, as some of the tracks do get a bit bumpy sometimes. I went to the local Giant warehouse, the salesman said that the latest Bosch software, on the latest motors, know if your taking too much power out the system at effectively half the display speed. Is he talking the truth? I still see a lot of tuning products for the latest Bosch and Yamaha. TBH, I cant see this is true, as what about a fat bloke, on flat tyres, going up a long hill at 10mph against the wind. Would the software really flag a fault? Serious question about the latest software please. Thanks - Geoff.

Cube SUV Hybrid Pro
Hi, If your really going to use the bike for 90% tarmac, then the bike is perfect, it does the easy trails, and old railway lines with ease. I have got fully used to the hub on hills, on or off road. Just need to think about what point to change down, if going gets a bit steep. On a road, or soft trail, this is never an issue. On a steep trail, with rocks, roots etc, you may go over a root, at the exact point you have to stop pedalling to change to the low gear, this may stop the bike. No issue, you get used to changing down earlier, if you see a tricky bit coming up. The reason why "I" would buy something different, is when I bought it, I though I would be 90% road and soft trail, tow path, railway line. It turns out, that there are a LOT of hard trails, steep hill trail sections, that I can now do now I have the assistance. I would never have discovered them, or gone anywhere near them without an electric bike. I needed the electric to discover them, and now I have, I know that full SUS is the right thing for the terrain I now ride! Hope that makes sense, chicken and egg really. I just ride the cube within its capabilities, on all terrain, yes, the back wheel spins in the mud, and I have to go slow down hills, but nothing stops me, so im still very happy with the bike. Geoff.

Hub gear is different. Some steep uphil trails can be a pain, as you have to stop pedaling slightly to change down a gear when it gets steeper, which can catch you out. On the flip side, when you do stop in the wrong gear, just flick to the right gear and get going again. I love it, wish there was a bigger selection of more off road specific with hubs as i wouldnt buy the suv for the trails, its a road bike. As an urban bike its perfect, but dont need the.nice clean hub then! Still love my bike, but i would buy something different next time for where i ride it.

Cube SUV Hybrid Pro
Hi, I saw in some technical data, that Bosch limited the torque to around 50Nm for a hub gear? Don't know that absolute torque matters, as that's what the gears are for (and fitness) I have use the bike far more than I thought I would, and as such got fitter doing so. Yes, I still run the ebike in maximum assist up hills, but this just translates to speed up the climb. I notice when im on my non ebike I go faster now too, so I must be fitter. The horizontal sliding drop outs are great, they have threaded adjusters like a motorbike to set the centre distance spot on before doing up the axle. No idea about the gearing, should say on the cube website?

Cube SUV Hybrid Pro
I finally set the front forks up, got a better, softer sag, and softened up the damper rate, what a difference, bike rode so much better on the trails last night, the smooth tyres even managed to find grip, as they were more in contact with the ground! Still need rear suspension, the rear end does thump when going at a faster pace, usually standing on the pedals, thus a seatpost isn't going to help so much!
