Panasonic 36v Middle Motor questions
Is it possible that it is just color? Judging from the pictures on eBay it appears that the R2 is lighter silver and the L2 is grayer. Thats just a couple of examples and seems unlikely. -G

Panasonic 36v Middle Motor questions
Hi All: Does any one know the difference between the R2 and L2 versions of the 36v Panasonic Middle Motors? Both R2 and L2 appear to be available in both coaster brake and freewheel versions. These are the ones from around 2012-2013. Not the "Next Generation" ones that came out around 2014. They appear the same on the outside when comparing like braking systems. Same part numbers too from what I can tell. Thank you sirs. -G http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/TzEAAOSwfVpYuYst/s-l1600.jpg http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/apIAAOSwdGFYuYuk/s-l1600.jpg

Changing the size of the motor gear does what on a Panasonic Mid Motor?
Thanks again flecc. I currently have an 11 or 12t. I am thinking I'd try going up 2 or 3 teeth. Is that reasonable? -G

Changing the size of the motor gear does what on a Panasonic Mid Motor?
Hi More questions, thank you very much. I read Flecc's great description (thank you sir) of the way Panasonic Mid Motor systems dole out their assistance and was surprised at how low the cadence was where it was optimal. I think with my 2012 36v version that has been increased but I still find that I like to spin the cranks faster than the system wants to assist. Would changing the size of the motor cog allow me to pedal at a higher cadence and still get assistance? Is there a down side to doing that? I have seen in the descriptions for the cogs online that it is not ok to change the size to increase speed. That isn't really my goal. I just like spinning. Can someone explain how the size of that motor cog effects the system, please. I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it. Thanks again, -G

Panasonic 36v Battery compatibility Help Please
Can any 36v Panasonic battery built for their mid mount motor systems work in any era of 36v motor? Specifically can this battery- http://en.hollandbikeshop.com/branded-bicycle-parts/panasonic-e-bike-parts/panasonic-rech-battery-e-bike/panasonic-e-bike-battery-36v-15ah-from-14/ -be used in a 2012 Panasonic 36v mid mount motor system like was used in the BH eMotion bikes? To clarify everything in question is 36v, Panasonic and intend for mid motor. Thanks! -G

Alfine 11 robust enough for a 36v Panasonic 250w Mid Motor?
Thanks All! I do keep hearing the 8 speed is stronger but I one of the reasons I like the 11 is the higher gain. I don't actually haul much in the way of heavy loads. With the current gearing I spend most of my time in the hardest (41 front and 11 rear) The 11 speed with an 18t sprocket would give more high gears than my current 41/11-32 set up. -G

Alfine 11 robust enough for a 36v Panasonic 250w Mid Motor?
Hi All: I am brand new to this forum and to eBikes. I come from a solid cycling and motorcycling back ground and love how the eBike fits into the continuum. I, by chance, happened into a long tail cargo bike (Surly Big Dummy) with a very nice retro fitted Panasonic Mid motor system. It is great. I haven't driven my truck much at all since getting this thing sorted out. It currently has a 9 speed w/ a rear mech but I am very partial to hub gears. Can the Alfine 11 stand up to eBike use? I searched the forum and there is chatter about it but no clear indication whether it is is good kit. Are there success stories? It seems like as most things on the internet it is easier to find the horror stories than the quiet satisfied users. There is also a wide ratio 8 speed Sturmey-Archer X-RK8 hubthat is very interesting but I can't find any reviews, good or bad, of that one. Thanks, -G
