  1. thanks very much for that suggestion re the Grin , looks an interesting site , much appreciated!
  2. I am somewhat ignorant regarding ebike technology, common designs, componentry, compatibility etc and would love to get up to speed on this exciting subject . I enjoy fault finding generally ...on anything really but 2 wheels have been a lifelong passion , particularly modifying , improving and maintaining bikes , which I have done for over 50 years now . I am someone who likes to understand things in relative depth so the knowledge becomes more usable over wider ranges so am keen to learn all about ebike tech , pros, cons, modifications etc so I can perhaps buy and repair some ebikes , for personal use and possible to make a little pocket money ...something I am very short of ! I guess by posting on here I am hoping to avoid wasting time digesting the mass of related subjects on YouTube and various forums and to get some pointers to the best resources available to folk in my position . If you have any advice., links or other suggestions it would be truly appreciated and thank you in advance. Bill in Devon , UK .
  3. Well..maybe I'm naive ...if he was a troll then lots of others took the bait. Guess it resonated with me because I have used trial periods many times to help me decide whether a purchase was really a good idea or just an impulse buy .
  4. I know this is an old thread but felt some of you pedelecers ganged up on the OP unfairly. If Decathlon offer a money back promise (if you are unsatisfied )then he was perfectly entitled to return the bike despite the miles covered. I agree some of his complaints were very minor and easily rectified by any competent fettler, so maybe that's what annoyed you but it appeared he was not the world's greatest engineer (alu/alu rust, spanner etc) .IMO he's perfectly entitled to take advantage of Decathlons offer ..conscience does not come into it. As said they are a massive company making vast profits and will, like most companies ,extract as much cash from the consumer as they can .No doubt they take advantage of their buying power and pay the minimum for the products they sell. Yes the OP may have appeared to be a bit of a whiner but if I was unhappy with a bike for whatever reason and was able to get my money back, I ,like most others I believe, would do so. Too much bullying and squabbling online these days.
  5. Not in spam and think i viewed every one as it arrived
  6. Started a couple of threads today and was alerted via email of the first couple of replies but after that despite more contributions i receive no more notification.Had this trouble before.Anyone know why? Thanks in advance. Bill
  7. after a while in all markets worldwide certain products become firm favourites amongst those in the know and those who research. I just wondered what models/makes have evolved to become most commonly seen on the streets of european cities as a result of being relatively affordable /reliable and well built? Not talking about sports models or mtb's...more bikes for everyday transport and fun that don't fall apart or fail within a short time. thanks in advance Bill
  8. Apart from here of course! I'd really like to thoroughly educate myself on all things ebike related particularly the tech side which may well involve me redoing my physics O level and probably a lot more as things have changed since 1980! just wondered if you could recommend other sites/books/media/mags etc or even possibly courses. Thanks in advance. Bill in exeter (well actually nr strasbourg at the mo)
  9. Sounds like exactly what i need.I wonder if a uk legal version of the HD model will ever become available. I presume that would be even more durable and take a huge amount of xxxt.
  10. Oh ..ok thanks.for some reason i thought the bbs02 was not uk legal
  11. As a relative ebike newbie I presume this thread is about engraving..am i on the right track? If so ..nicely done!
  12. OK ..i understand ..thanks
  13. what's this idea you have about small wheels climbing well? interested as never heard that before .
  14. Just to clarify..i am asking whether once you have a unit you can swop spindles to fit other bikes eg if you have a motor to fit a bike with a 120 mm bb (eg fatbike) can you alter the motor to fit another bike with a standard 68 /73 shell and obviously a shorter spindle?
  15. we're in the North east nr Nancy/strasbourg /german border. The bike he was going to buy was 650 euros with lead acid battery and 24 volts I think. 6 months warranty on battery. Just found the same for 379 euro online! presume at these prices they're unlikely to be a good ride or durable surely.I have a bosch mid drive myself and many nice bikes built myself from 2nd hand quality stuff...hate to encourage anyone to buy super cheap unless they have to. It's not too hilly around here apart from a few distant mountains but he'd like 50km capacity assisted really.
  16. I'm over in france and my" Uncle in law " is desperate to buy an ebike and was going to press the button on a crappy supermarket deal until i stopped him . Does anyone know of anything reasonable at the budget end available in France ..Decathlon or elsewhere? basic commuter type rather than sport model preferred. thanks in advance Bill
  17. Not normally keen on cruiser type bikes but have to admit that looks rather nice !
  18. Jimmy's prices look similar on both ebay and shop links so why the PMSL ?
  19. interesting that gold block...never seen one before but i don't delve in 10 speed much. sometimes attaching the cable in a slightly different position can solve the problem but you need to know where!
  20. no ..10 speed mech won't work with 9speed /8 speed shifters as the pull ratio is different. I know from experience having tried it ( 9sp shifters ) and google will confirm . You may be able to adjust the cable attachment point slightly to adjust the geometry/pull but easier just to change the mech or shifter .
  21. DH bike with 24" wheels ..sounds unusual. "From the various threads I've read, I understand that Xiongda are quite happy to adapt a motor and mark it with the above specifications... and that would certainly be considered if it provided a reasonable amount of power to make the investment seem worthwhile... but I don't know enough to confidently give them a specification for this." Not sure what you mean.
  22. looks a nice bodge:)...tell me ..why have you left the brake cable outer housing on the cheapo ( switch) lever? are you running the wiring through it? just interested really
