Advice re up to £1K bike please. Folder or Normal ok.
Hi Earn. I sympathise with your dilemma, it's all new models, different systems, new legislation and very little data on which to make an informed decision. I will make a comment on your interest in folding bikes, Without an electric motor, they require quite a lot of effort, hence they are most improved as e-bikes, with a comfortable sitting up cycling position, as you say perfect for throwing into the car and experiencing the sublime, but hilly Scottish countryside. My first e-bike was a folding model and I still love it's versatility. I ride in the Scottish Borders, was in Comrie, and if you get half of the joy e-biking has given me it's worth the initial cognative dissonance. Good luck, E-biking it's smiles better. J

Hi Everyone. How about this as a thought. Some Lambretta scooters have a foot pedal accelerator, following the logic of the anti-throttle argument they ought to be classified as cars. Really? A throttle system gives most agency to the rider, imagine a car that you can't control the speed, it just goes slow, medium or fast. e-biking, it's smiles better. enjoy. J

That was quick, Nearest toon Eyemouth 10 miles, Muckle Toon 45. I have 3 byocycles, all good at the moment. Have had to buy new ones when repairs required as I use them for work as well as fun and I can take out friends. I have had all major parts replaced on old Chameleon but she has done over 10,000 miles, the newer ones are a bit more fragile. E-biking, smiles better.(part QUOTE) All the best J

Hi my name is Josh Trees. I have been e-biking for 5 years, on road and X-country, I do 100km per week and e-biking still makes me smile. I am looking for recommendations for books and possibly courses on e-bike maintenance. I live in the Scottish Borders, great for scenery, I can cycle for hours without seeing a car but repairs take at least six months. I am going to try posting bike to England next time, but I think a good book could be helpful, any suggestions? Happy e-biking. J

Hi Flecc, I see your point, it is precisely because I love to slow down in the beautiful, car free, Scottish Borders countryside and just pedal, with no assistance, that I find the pedalec so inconvenient. My desire is to pedal more, not less, to cycle, not motorcycle. This is better achieved with the occasional use of a throttle than continual switching on and off of the pedalec. Thank you for your reply to a newbie. It appears that at the moment we can have both, each to their own, hopefully it will stay that way. All the best. J

Shouldn't the pro-throttle argument be that it is safer. The better the control of the bike the safer it is. Continually turning a class A bike on and off to cycle without power, plus the delay on rotation provides far less control. Legislation ought to be evidence based (dream on). What is required here is organised lobbying and data collection from the real experts, e-bike riders. - Let's keep the throttle!
